3.4.1 Top section. Top lead sections shall conform to TA13207E7680. Each
top section shall be furnished with capscrews, lockwashers, and nuts for attach-
ing the pile-driver adapter plates.
3.4.2 Lower section. Lower lead sections shall conform to TA13207E7680.
Each lower section shall be furnished with capscrews, lockwashers, and nuts for
attaching the lower section to the top section.
3.5 Adapter plates. Adapter plates shall conform to TA13207E7680, except
that when specified (see 6.2), adapter plates shall conform to figure 1 and
shall be comparable with the manufacturer's make, size, and model of the crane
boom with which the pile-driver assemblies to be used. Figure 1 adapter plate
material shall conform to TA13207E7680 adapter plate material.
3.6 Catwalk. The catwalk assembly shall conform to TA13207E7680. Each
catwalk assembly shall be furnished with capscrews, bolts, lockwashers, and nuts
for assembling the catwalk and attaching to the lower lead section and crane.
3.7 Treatment and painting. The portions of the top and lower pile-driver
lead sections, adapter plates, catwalk assembly, and their components normally
painted, both internally and externally, shall be cleaned, treated, and painted
in accordance with MIL-T-704, type F or G, as applicable. Unless otherwise
specified (see 6.2) top coat color shall be camouflage green 383 conforming to
MIL-C-46168.
3.8 Identification marking. The top and lower pile-driver lead sections,
adapter plates, and catwalk assembly shall be identified in accordance with
MIL-STD-130. The marking shall be applied to the top and lower pile-driver lead
sections, adapter plates, and catwalk assembly on plates conforming to MIL-P-514,
type I, style 4, composition c of type I, grade A, class 1 material. Plates
shall be attached by screws, bolts, or rivets in a conspicuous, protected
location.
3.9 Workmanship. All parts, components, and assemblies of the pile-driver
leads and catwalks-shall be free from defects such as incomplete welds, rust,
cracks, kinks, sharp bends, and other defects that could impair the operation or
serviceability of the pile-driver leads.
3.9.1 Steel fabrication. All bends and forming of material shall be done by
methods that will not cause injury to the steel. Shearing and chipping, when
required, shall be done neatly and accurately. Corners shall be square and
true, and all sharp edges and burrs shall be removed. Flame-cutting may be
employed instead of shearing or sawing. Burned surfaces of flame-cut material
shall be ground or machined to remove ash and cooling checks. Precautions shall
be taken to prevent overheating, and heated steel shall be allowed to cool
slowly. All bends of a major character shall be made with steel dies or fixtures
to insure uniformity of size and shape.
3.9.2 Bolted connections. Boltholes shall be accurately formed and drilled,
and burrs and sharp edges shall be removed. All bolts, nuts, and screws shall
be tight. Adjoining surfaces shall be flat and in full contact with each other.
