3.6.10 Chains. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), all buckets shall be
furnished with the manufacturer's standard hoist and drag chains, links,
rings, and shackles. When specified (see 6.2), chains shall meet or exceed
the requirements of ASTM A 391.
3.6.11 Spreader bar. Spreader bar shall be of rolled or cast steel with a
minimum safety factor of 3, based on yield strength, using a static struck
bucket loaded with material weighing 100 pounds per cubic foot.
3.6.12 Dump block. The dump block assembly shall include the frame,
sheave, axle, and lubrication fittings. The frame shall be of cast or rolled
steel. The sheave shall be made of steel conforming to one of the steels
specified in 3.6.3 and shall have smooth grooves with a pitch diameter of not
less than 16 times the diameter of the dump rope. The sheave shall be
furnished with lubricated roller type bearings, or needle bearings as normally
provided an commercial buckets of the size indicated. The sheave pin shall be
of cold rolled or forged steel.
3.6.13 Dump rope. The dump rope shall be 6 by 19 improved plow steel,
uncoated, preformed, independent wire rope core conforming to RR-W-410, type
I, class 2, construction 3. Size of dump rope shall be not less than
specified in table II (see 3.6.2). Sockets shall be of steel conforming to
one of the steels specified in 3.6.3.
3.7 Cleaning. treatment, and painting. Surfaces normally painted in good
commercial practice shall be cleaned, treated, and painted as specified
herein. The color of the finish coat shall be as specified (see 6.2).
Surfaces to be painted shall be cleaned and dried to insure that they are free
from contaminants such as soil, grease, welding slag and spatter, loose mill
scale, water, dirt, corrosion product, or any other contaminating substances.
AS soon as practicable after cleaning, and before any corrosion product or
other contamination can result, the surfaces shall be prepared or treated to
insure the adhesion of the coating system. The painting shall consist of at
least one coat of primer and one finish coat. The primer shall be applied to
a clean, dry surface as soon as practicable after cleaning and treating.
Painting shall be with manufacturer's current materials according to
manufacturer's current processes and the total dry film thickness shall be not
less than 2.5 mils over the entire surface. The paint shall be free from
runs, sags, orange peel, or other defects. ("When specified see 6.2"), the
portions of the (item) normally painted internally and externally shall be
cleaned, treated and painted in accordance with MIL-T-704, type F or G, as
applicable. Top coat color shall be green 383 conforming to MIL-C-46168 or
MIL-C-53039 as applicable.
3.8 Identification plate. The contracting officer will furnish to the
Government inspector the required identification plates. The contractor will
be required to stamp the necessary data in the blank spaces thereon and
securely affix said plates in a conspicuous place on each unit, assembly or
subassembly, and parts as directed by the Government inspector. Nonferrous
screws, rivets, or bolts of not less than l/8-inch in diameter shall be used
to affix the plates. Nomenclature contained in contract item description
shall be placed in the top blank.
